On the eve of the 16th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16), which will be held from October 21 to November 1, 2024 in Colombia in Cali, the UNGC Network Russia, together with the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in Moscow, held an event for Russian participants of the UN Global Compact and partners of the National Network The Global Compact.
The event took place on October 4 at the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in Moscow (Burdenko str., 20), beginning at 16.00.
During the event, representatives of Colombia, the host country of the Biodiversity Conference, presented full information about COP16, planned programs and international participants. The possibilities of interaction of stakeholders with Colombia on the topics of biodiversity conservation, ecology and climate were also discussed in general. Representatives of Colombia are ready to assist all interested parties in establishing contacts with the expert, scientific and business community in Colombia within the framework of the Sustainable Development Agenda. At the same time, they discussed the possibility of preparing joint sessions with representatives of Colombia at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29, Baku, November 11-22, 2024).
The format of the event:
- Presentation of the SOR16
- Presentation of environmental aspects and the Sustainable Development Agenda of Colombia
- Discussion of the potential for interaction on the topics of biodiversity, ecology, climate and the 2030 Agenda in general, with the possibility of presentations by representatives of the Russian side. The event was held with the personal participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Colombia in Moscow, Mr. Hector Isidro ARENAS NAIR (Héctor Isidro ARENAS NEIRA).
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, as well as other relevant departments.

Side-event of the FAO liaison with Russian Federation
On October 15, at 16:00 (Moscow time), within the framework of the Forum, the FAO liaison office with Russian Federation held its first ever side-event, the theme of which was: "Healthy nutrition for all: market trends affecting the diet of young people in Russia."The event was held at the UN House in Moscow, where participants discussed the latest trends in the field of healthy nutrition.
